Hi, thank you so much for this! Don’t apologize at all, these are great criticisms. I actually had a section of environmentalists in the original piece and cut them out, partially because I found that some of the most “prominent” sources in the mainstream also fit into other categories as well and to be honest, I hadn’t dug too deep into that identity to discover more for myself. You’ve inspired me to go back in and add that section. In hindsight I do think it’s necessary and has been massively influential to the left’s ideology in recent decades.

I would note the same for prominent hackers. It’s just not an area I’ve dug deep enough into. I know some surface history and figures, but that’s about it. If you have any resources you’d like to share in these areas, I’d greatly appreciate it, but no pressure obviously. I know that’s a lot of work and I can do it in my own time.

As for the anti-war movement, I would say that most anti-war activists, groups, and outlets fall under the identities of leftists or social justice progressives. Unfortunately, a lot more identities could have been added/detailed to this list including neoconservatives, communists, socialists, fascists, reactionaries, etc., I just had to boil it down since it was already over 10,000 words!

Lastly I’ll just note that the only reason I included the subsections of prominent outlets, groups, and figures at all was to give laypeople an idea of where the sources they follow fall on the spectrum. That’s why they’re mostly “pop” sources and not feet on the ground sources, per se. As you know, most of the world’s best activists don’t spend time building media or social media presences for themselves since they’re actually doing the work! Still, you’re right in that they deserve more credit. I just think that would need to be a separate piece entirely. Again, I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback and will return to this piece with edits soon.
